Pristiq (Desvenlafaxine) is a prescription medication that has been approved by Health Canada and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of depression in adults.
Pristiq is a drug similar in composition to Wyeth’s existing antidepressant, Effexor XR (venlafaxine extended release capsules).
Pristiq (Desvenlafaxine) belongs to a class of medications called serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) which work by affecting the levels of two neurotransmitters believed to play a key role in depression, serotonin and norepinephrine. It may take several weeks to feel the full benefit of this prescription antidepressant Pristiq (Desvenlafaxine). Some people will start to feel the benefits of Pristiq, while it may take longer for others. It's important to take Pristiq (Desvenlafaxine) as prescribed by your health care professional. Do not stop taking Pristiq (Desvenlafaxine) without first talking to your health care professional.
Side effects associated with taking Pristiq include nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, diarrhea, and sweating. Not everyone who takes Pristiq will experience these or any other side effects.
