Cenestin (Synthetic Conjugated Estrogens) is a female hormone and is usually given to women who do not produce the proper amount. Cenestin (Synthetic Conjugated Estrogens) is used to reduce menopause symptoms (such as hot flashes or vaginal dryness).
Cenestin (Synthetic Conjugated Estrogens) is not the same as Premarin. However, both Cenestin and Premarin are conjugated estrogens drug products. Cenestin is a synthetic product chemically derived from a compound obtained from plant material; Premarin is made from pregnant mares’ urine.
Cenestin and Premarin are both prescription medicines approved to relieve the symptoms associated with menopause.
Cenestin and Premarin are not the same medicines because Cenestin is made of nine synthetic estrogen components and is approved for short-term estrogen replacement therapy to treat vasomotor symptoms, such as hot flashes and sweating. They are also different because Cenestin is not approved for long-term uses, such as the prevention of osteoporosis. Premarin is approved for certain long-term uses, including the prevention of osteporosis.
