Sular inhibits the flow of calcium through the smooth muscles of the heart, delaying the passage of nerve impulses, slowing down the heart, and expanding the blood vessels. This eases the heart's workload and reduces your blood pressure. Calcium is needed by muscle cells in order for them to contract; therefore Sular causes the muscle in the walls of the small arteries to relax. The relaxing and widening of the small arteries in the body decrease the resistance that the heart has to push against in order to pump the blood around the body. This reduces blood pressure.
