Aredia (Pamidronate Disodium) acts on the bones to help regulate blood calcium levels. Aredia (Pamidronate Disodium) is used to treat Paget's disease of bone and to treat high blood calcium levels.
Aredia (Pamidronate Disodium) has also been used in the treatment of osteoporosis, to reduce bone pain associated with certain illnesses and to treat bone loss due to breast cancer.
Aredia (Pamidronate Disodium) is mainly used to treat patients who have a cancer which has spread to the bones. These types of cancers usually includes breast cancer and it is sometimes recommended for patients with prostate cancer, lung cancer and myeloma.
Aredia (Pamidronate Disodium) is most often given to patients where the cancer in the bone has caused pain or signs of weakness.
Cancer Treatment Aredia Injection (Pamidronate Disodium) is recommended if the level of calcium in the blood stream is raised.
Aredia contains disodium pamidronate a member of a group of drugs called bisphosphonates. Aredia (Pamidronate Disodium) blocks the function of the cells which reabsorb bone (osteoclasts) but does not effect the cells which strengthen bone.
Aredia Side Effects:
Side effects do occur with patients who are being treated by Aredia (Pamidronate Disodium). These adverse effects of Aredia can include: Mild fever, redness, swelling or pain at injection site, stomach pain, loss of appetite, nausea, constipation or initial increase in bone pain may occur.
It is very important to inform you doctor about all the side effects you experience while being treated by Aredia. You should especially notify your doctor if you develop: jaw pain, stiff muscles, difficulty moving, rapid heart rate, weakness. If you notice other side effects not listed above with Aredia, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
