Calcium Resonium
Calcium Resoniumis used for high levels of potassium in the blood (hyperkalaemia).
You should not use Calcium Resonium if you have the following medical conditions:
A form of cancer of the bone marrow (myeloma)
A type of cancer that has spread from its original site to somewhere else in the body (metastatic carcinoma)
Babies less than one month old (neonates)
Blockage of the bowel (bowel obstruction)
Known sensitivity or allergy to any ingredient
Over activity of the parathyroid glands (hyperparathyroidism)
Sarcoidosis
This medicine should not be used if you are allergic to one or any of its ingredients. Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have previously experienced such an allergy. If you feel you have experienced an allergic reaction, stop using this medicine and inform your doctor or pharmacist immediately.
Resonium Calcium Side effectsL
Resonium Calcium's possible side effects can affect individual people in different ways. The following are some of the side effects that are can be associated with Resonium Calcium:
Constipation
Diarrhoea
Indigestion (dyspepsia)
Low blood potassium level (hypokalaemia)
High blood calcium level (hypercalcaemia)
Nausea and vomiting
Loss of appetite
High blood sodium level (hypernatraemia)
Retention of sodium
Gastric disturbances including nausea, vomiting, gastric discomfort, constipation, diarrhea

Calcium resonium is a polystyrene cation exchange resin which acts to remove excess potassium from the body by exchanging it for the cation ion (Ca++) in the resin. It is a relatively slow method of reducing serum potassium.
Hyperkalaemia is an increase in the level of potassium in the blood.
Hyperkalaemia may fatal as a result of arrhythmias and cardiac arrest.
