Emend Capsules (Aprepitant) helps prevent and control nausea and vomiting caused by initial and repeat courses of chemotherapy that are highly likely to cause nausea and vomiting in adult patients. Adding 1 capsule of Emend (Aprepitant) each day for 3 days can help protect against nausea and vomiting not only on Day 1 but also on Days 2 through 5. Which means, Emend Capsules (Aprepitant) may stop symptoms before they start.
Emend Capsule (Aprepitant) is not used to treat nausea and vomiting that you already have. Tell your doctor if you are taking other medicines, if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, or if you have liver problems. Emend Capsules (Aprepitant) may cause serious life-threatening reactions if used with certain medicines
The most common Emend side effects with EMEND are tiredness, nausea, hiccups, constipation, diarrhea, and loss of appetite. These are not all of the possible side effects of Emend Capsules (Aprepitant).
Emend Capsules (Aprepitant) comes in capsules that you take by mouth, packaged in a convenient tripack. Fill your prescription Emend Capsules (Aprepitant) for 1 tripack before you start chemotherapy, and bring it with you on the day of your treatment.
Emend Capsules (Aprepitant) is always used with other antiemetics. You will take your first capsule of EMEND 125 mg 1 hour before you begin your treatment. Then, you’ll take 1 capsule of EMEND 80 mg each morning for the next 2 days.
Women who use birth control medicines during treatment with Emend Capsules (Aprepitant) and for up to 1 month after using Emend Capsules (Aprepitant) should also use a backup method of contraception to avoid pregnancy.
Chemotherapy destroys cancer cells by stopping them from growing and multiplying. But in the process, chemotherapy can also harm normal, healthy cells in the body. Chemotherapy can bring on nausea and vomiting by injuring stomach cells that start the process of nausea and vomiting. Some chemotherapies can directly activate the area of the brain responsible for producing nausea and vomiting. And several chemotherapies can cause nausea and vomiting in both ways.
