Sulfasalazine is commonly known by the brand name Azulfidine. Sulfasalazine (Sul-fa-SAL-a-zeen) is an anti-inflammatory agent used to treat rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory conditions. It works by suppressing the blood cells that cause inflammation.
Sulfasalazine is used to treat inflammatory bowel disease mainly ulcerative colitis which is a disease of the intestine and Crohn's disease which affects the gastrointestinal tract. It is also used to treat rheumatoid arthritis. Sulfasalazine is available in the form of tablets.
The most common adverse reactions associated with Sulfasalazine are anorexia, headache, nausea, vomiting, gastric distress, and apparently reversible oligospermia.
