Effects - How it works in the body
Sustiva is belongs to the family of drugs called systemic Antiviral which known as anti-HIV medicines or protease inhibitor agents medication and commonly used for the treatment and prevention of the infections of HIV, which causes acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Sustiva used along with other medicines to manage human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome) is caused by infection with HIV (human immunodeficiency virus). HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) virus invades cells of the immune system, particularly the white blood cells that called also CD4 T-helper lymphocytes. These cells generally activate other cells in the immune system to fight infection. Once the virus is inside the CD4 T-cell it multiplies or producing numerous copies of itself. An enzyme produced by the HIV virus, known as protease, acts an important role in this process. Protease breaks up new protein produced by the virus, so that reproduction of the virus can be assembled from the pieces. If this enzyme is stopped from working, any new virus that is produced is faulty and unable to infect more CD4 cells. Protease inhibitors, such as Sustiva, work by stopping the protease enzyme from working. There is no cure for HIV, but Sustiva is one of most important medicines that slow the progression of the disease from HIV to AIDS.
