Naprosyn SR works by blocking the action of a substance in the body known as cyclo-oxygenase.

Prostaglandins cause pain, swelling and inflammation. By blocking the action of cyclo-oxygenase, Naprosyn SR stops the production of these inflammatory prostaglandins, and therefore reduces inflammation and pain. Naprosyn SR decreases fever by adjusting the body's thermostat in the brain. Naprosyn SR blocks production and release of chemicals that cause pain and inflammation.
