Ticlid (Ticlopidine) Inhibitor of Platelet Function. Ticlid (Ticlopidine) is an inhibitor of platelet aggregation. Ticlid (Ticlopidine) causes a time and dose-dependent inhibition of platelet aggregation and release of platelet factors, as well as a prolongation of bleeding time. Ticlid (Ticlopidine) has no significant in vitro activity. Ticlid (Ticlopidine) interferes with platelet membrane function by inhibiting ADP-induced platelet-fibrinogen binding and subsequent platelet-platelet interactions. The effect of Ticlid (Ticlopidine) on platelet function is irreversible. Upon discontinuation of Ticlid (Ticlopidine) dosing, bleeding time and other platelet function tests return to normal within 1 week in the majority of patients.
Ticlid (Ticlopidine) should be used only for the established indications and should not be given to patients with hematopoietic disorders, hemostatic disorders, patients suffering from conditions associated with active bleeding and patients anticipating elective surgery. In clinical trials elderly patients tolerated the drug well, but safety in children and pregnant women have not been establised. NSAIDs including ASA The combined antithrombotic effect of Ticlid (Ticlopidine) and ASA or NSAIDs can lead to increased risk of hemorrhagic complications. If concomitant use of these drugs is necessary, close clinical and laboratory monitoring is required.
Ticlid (Ticlopidine) prevents blood from clotting. Ticlid (Ticlopidine) is used to reduce the risk of stroke. Ticlid (Ticlopidine) should be used only when aspirin has failed to work or if patient cannot use aspirin. Take Ticlid (Ticlopidine) with food or just after a meal to prevent stomach upset. Take Ticlid (Ticlopidine) exactly as prescribed. Do not increase your Ticlid (Ticlopidine) dose or take this more often than prescribed. There will be no additional benefit and the risk of Ticlid (Ticlopidine) side effects will increase. Do not take antacids within 2 hours of taking Ticlid (Ticlopidine).
